Campfire/Open Burning Permits

The Village of McBride issues Campfire/Open Burning Permits to residents who wish to have campfires on their properties or to burn yard waste. 

Campfire/Open Burning Permits are required as per the Village of McBride Burning Bylaw 680 Bylaw 680 - Burning Bylaw

Please visit the Village Office to apply for a Campfire/Open Burning Permit. There is no cost for these permits.

The following conditions must be met for validating a permit:

  1. The applicant must be the owner of the property or have a letter authorizing the applicant to apply for an Open Burning Permit
  2. No fire, except in a proper furnace, stove or combustion apparatus shall be left to burn at any time without a person of at least nineteen (19) years of age in attendance. All ashes or other residue, the ground, walls, vegetation, etc. surrounding the site of the fire for (10) feet shall be thoroughly wetted and all embers quenched by wetting or adequately covered with earth before such ashes, residue or site is left unattended.
  3. The following material must not be burned:
    • Tires
    • Treated Lumber
    • Plastics
    • Railway Ties
    • Drywall
    • Manure
    • Demolition Waste
    • Rubber
    • Domestic Waste
    • Asphalt
    • Asphalt Products
    • Paint 
    • Special Waste
    • Fuel & Lubricant Containers
    • Tar
    • Biomedical Waste
    • And any other material not listed that may cause Air Quality Concerns
  4. Open grass burning is not permitted with the exception of fires started and maintained by the McBride District Volunteer Fire Department.
  5. Size of burn pile cannot exceed 8 cubic feet (2’x2’x2’).
  6. BURNING MUST NOT BE INITIATED IF THE LOCAL AIR FLOW WILL CAUSE THE SMOKE TO NEGATIVELY IMPACT ON A NEARBY POPULATION.
  7. There will be no burning in receptacles (eg. no burning barrels).
  8. Open Fire Permits are valid for 10s from the date of application.
  9. Campfire Permits are valid until December 31 of the current year (except where cancelled)
  10. Burning must not be initiated if the local air flow will cause the smoke to negatively impact on a nearby population.
Permits may be cancelled at any time by the Village of McBride, the Fire Chief or his designate.
